Verdict: Hyatt Regency Koh Samui scores 7.0 out of 10

Hyatt Regency Koh Samui scores 7.0 out of 10 in the Samui69 file. It is a 140-room, 5-star resort on the North Chaweng and Bophut border, about 3 km from the airport, and it suits families with young children and guests who rank service and breakfast above a swimming beach. It is a poor match for swimmers, couples after adult quiet, guests with limited mobility and anyone who wants to walk to dinner: beach scores 3.8, access 5.0 and location 5.8. Rooms started around 6,500 THB (~186 USD) a night in the sources checked on 30 September 2026.

Method: 165 guest reviews read one by one on Tripadvisor, about 70% of them from the last 18 months. Booking.com, Agoda, Kayak, HolidayCheck and Hyatt.com gave aggregate scores only. Checked 30 September 2026. Every judgement below is what guests report or what the file shows.

What does the brochure say?

The hotel opened on 1 July 2021 as a Hyatt Regency, the property people mean when they search for a koh samui hyatt or a hyatt hotel koh samui. On paper it has 140 rooms, suites and villas of 48 sqm and up, five cascading pools including an infinity pool, an adults-only pool and a kids pool with a slide, and a semi-private beach with a floating pier for sea access. Dining runs through Yangna (breakfast and all-day), Sesun Grill and Beach Bar, the Cobalt bar and the Kube lounge.

The activity list is long: yoga, Muay Thai, sound healing, a Thai cooking class, free kayaks and paddleboards, and the free Camp Hyatt kids club for ages 4 and up. A 24 h fitness centre with Matrix equipment and a day spa complete it. Pets are not allowed. Parking is free on site, with free valet. The hotel also claims Green Key certification, 515 kWp of rooftop solar and no single-use plastic. Those are hotel claims: only two guests in the file mention any sustainability initiative.

What do guests actually report?

Platform scores sit high. Tripadvisor shows 4.7 out of 5 from 1,389 reviews. Booking.com gives 9.1 out of 10 from 1,559 reviews, Agoda 9.0 from 1,184 and Kayak 9.1 from 1,558. Hyatt.com shows 4.5 out of 5 from 606 reviews. HolidayCheck shows 5.6 out of 6 from only 40 reviews, with 98% recommending the hotel. The Tripadvisor subscores are cleanliness 4.8, rooms 4.7, service 4.7, sleep 4.7, value 4.4 and location 4.3. Location is the lowest, and Kayak’s location subscore is 3 out of 10.

The 165-review sample shows where the Samui69 score of 7.0 comes from:

Category Mentions (+ / -) Score
Staff and service 120 / 10 9.3
Breakfast 55 / 12 8.8
Kids and families 30 / 10 8.8
Pools 40 / 10 8.2
Location and access 24 / 28 5.8
Value for money 15 / 18 6.2
Beach 8 / 38 3.8

Staff praise is the loudest signal: about 120 reviews praise the team, and the general manager, the Club host Gale and several villa hosts are named repeatedly. Problems, when they appear, are reported as solved fast. The weak spots sit in what the hotel cannot fix with service: a rocky beach, a remote site and a sloped property.

What are the rooms and villas like?

Rooms score 8.3, with about 50 positive and 10 negative mentions. Guests describe spacious, modern rooms and villas, with categories starting at 48 sqm. The negatives are a cubic look, little storage, stairs to reach some rooms and open bathroom layouts without much privacy. Bathrooms score 6.6: amenities are liked, but a plumbing fault and 2024 mould mentions appear in a small sample of nine.

Views score 6.8. Guests praise sea and pool views from upper floors and villas, while some report that trees block the views in partial-view rooms. Beds score 7.3 on thin data: Tripadvisor sleep is 4.7 out of 5, with a few mentions of loud air conditioning, road noise or thin walls. Cleanliness scores 8.6, and the few complaints cover dust, hair, insects and mosquitoes.

The Club tier comes up more than once. Guests who took it call it great value, and the Club host is one of the names in the staff praise. The file holds no detail on lounge hours or rates, so check what a club lounge rate adds before paying for it.

Upper-level view over the pool terrace to the sea

Condition scores 7.0. The resort is five years old and well kept per 14 guests, but 12 report worn decking, broken outlets or the construction and maintenance work of spring 2025. One guest was compensated for that.

How good are the pools and the beach?

The pools are the reason families pick this resort. Five pools step down toward the sea, with a long infinity edge, a kids pool with a slide and an adults-only pool. Pools score 8.2 with 40 positive and 10 negative mentions. The complaints are the usual ones: about 6 guests report sunbed hoarding, the adult pool is called small and shallow, and families crowd the main pools at peak. Five reviews from 2024 and 2025 report murky pool water, litter or playground wear, and the hotel replied with an apology.

A sunken seat inside the infinity pool

The beach is the file’s biggest problem. It is a semi-private stretch of rocks and coarse sand, and about 38 guests call it rocky, small or unswimmable, against 8 positive mentions. The floating pier gives sea access for swimming. For a proper sandy beach, read the Chaweng beach guide, or the calmer Choeng Mon beach a short taxi ride north. The Bophut beach guide covers the stretch toward Fisherman’s Village.

Location scores 5.8 with 24 positive and 28 negative mentions. The airport is 8-10 minutes away, about 3 km, which families with tight connections like. But the site is not walkable to dining, and guests report taxis from 350 THB (~10 USD) to reach Chaweng. See the Fisherman’s Village guide for the evening-market side of the trip.

Grounds score 7.4: the landscaping is praised and buggies run on the slopes, but 14 guests mention many stairs, ramps and long walks. Accessibility scores 5.0 because some buildings have no lifts.

What are the food, drink and spa like?

Breakfast is the best food story: a wide, fresh buffet at Yangna with live stations and a superfood section, scoring 8.8 with 55 positive and 12 negative mentions. The complaints are queues at peak and repetition after several days.

Restaurants score 6.6 with 20 positive and 17 negative mentions. Sesun and Yangna are the liked venues. The complaints are limited choice, high prices and waits of 15 to 30 minutes for food. Four venues is a modest list, so budget for some dinners off site. Anyone searching for the hyatt regency koh samui restaurant line-up will find the same four names in the file: Yangna, Sesun, Cobalt and Kube.

A dining room with the sea in view

The bar scores 7.0: pool bar staff are praised, prices and the beer range are not. The spa scores 7.4 from 10 positive mentions and none negative, described as good value, but the sample is small and no price was found. Wellness scores 7.8 with yoga, Muay Thai, sound healing, a cooking class and free kayaks and paddleboards. The gym is a 24 h Matrix fitness centre, scoring 6.8; a few guests say it is small and used by kids.

Where does Hyatt Regency Koh Samui fall short?

The beach. It is the lowest score in the file at 3.8. Guests wanting to swim from the property should look elsewhere or plan trips to a beach nearby.

Remoteness. There is no walkable dining, so every dinner off site means a taxi. Kayak’s location subscore of 3 out of 10 backs up the guest tally.

Couples. The adults-only pool and villas are real, but 12 guests say family noise dominates, and 3 report children ignoring the adults-only rule. Couples score 5.8 and quiet 6.3, with 2025 construction and road noise adding to the family crowds.

Value. Kayak shows entry rates of about 7,000 THB (~200 USD), and the file’s range is 6,500 to 14,000 THB (~186-400 USD) a night. Value scores 6.2 with 15 positive and 18 negative comments: the Club tier is liked, while guests call food pricey and the beach a letdown at this price.

Access. Buggies help, but slopes, ramps and stairs without lifts in some buildings make it a poor match for reduced mobility.

Who should book, and who should not?

Book it if you are:

  • a family with young children who will live in the pools and at Camp Hyatt
  • a guest who values named, responsive staff and a wide breakfast
  • a traveller on a tight flight schedule who wants 8-10 minutes from the airport
  • a Club tier or villa guest, the two groups most often happy about value

Skip it if you are:

  • a swimmer who wants a good beach on the doorstep
  • a couple or honeymooner after adult quiet
  • a guest with limited mobility or a wish to walk to dinner
  • travelling with a pet
  • sensitive to sunbed races and family crowds at peak

Pros and cons

Pros

  • Staff praised by name in most of 165 reviews (120 positive against 10 negative), and problems solved fast
  • Five cascading pools, the Camp Hyatt kids club and a slide make it strong for families
  • Wide fresh breakfast, spacious clean rooms and villas, 8-10 minutes from the airport

Cons

  • A rocky, coarse-sand beach that about 38 guests call unswimmable
  • Remote: no walkable dining, taxis needed, slopes and stairs without lifts
  • Family crowds, sunbed hoarding, pricey food and some wear or maintenance issues

What are the alternatives?

  • Melia Koh Samui: scores 7.3 in the file with a calm, shallow Choeng Mon beach and a large lagoon pool, but guests report construction noise in 2026 and pricey extras. Rooms from about 6,000 THB (~171 USD).
  • Anantara Bophut Koh Samui: scores 7.8 with a walk to Fisherman’s Village, its own coarse-sand beach, a kids club and strong staff praise. The file flags family noise, stairs only and weaker value, with rooms from about 7,400 THB (~211 USD).

For more family-oriented options, see the best family resorts guide. The how to get to Koh Samui guide covers the airport side.

FAQ

Does Hyatt Regency Koh Samui have a kids club?

Yes. Camp Hyatt is free for ages 4 and up, and younger children can join with a parent or a babysitter arranged through the club. Families give kids and families 8.8 out of 10 in the file. Complaints cover some paid activities and playground wear in 2025.

Is the beach at Hyatt Regency Koh Samui good for swimming?

No, per the file. About 38 of 165 guests call it rocky, small or unswimmable, and a floating pier provides sea access. A sandy beach is a short taxi ride away, see the Chaweng beach guide.

How much do Hyatt Regency Koh Samui prices run?

Rooms ran from about 6,500 to 14,000 THB (~186-400 USD) a night in the sources checked on 30 September 2026, converted from Kayak listings in GBP. Expect prices to move with season and room category. The Club tier is the one upgrade guests call good value.

How far is the hotel from the airport?

About 3 km, or 8-10 minutes by car, one of the shortest airport runs on the island. The hotel offers paid pick-up and drop-off.

Is there a club lounge or club access?

The file shows a Club tier, with a named Club host praised by guests and several reviews calling it great value. It holds no detail on lounge hours, food or price, so confirm those before paying the difference.

What do the review platforms say?

Tripadvisor 4.7 out of 5 from 1,389 reviews (Tripadvisor page), and HolidayCheck 5.6 out of 6 from 40 reviews (HolidayCheck page). Both sit above the Samui69 score because that score weights the beach, location and access, where the complaints gather.
