Diving from Samui means a boat to other sites. Sail Rock, a granite pinnacle, and the reefs around Koh Tao are the usual trips, since the island's own reefs are modest. Both shops here run day boats and teach the full course ladder from a first try-dive upward.

Our diving guide puts whale shark sightings at Sail Rock mostly in March to May and again around September to October, never guaranteed. Visibility is generally best from March to September. Ask the shop about current conditions.
