Nice to Sea You Weekend Concerts at Santiburi Koh Samui (October 2022)

S Hotels and Resorts staged the first part of its 'Nice to Sea You Weekend Concerts' at Santiburi Koh Samui from 14 to 16 October 2022.

About this event

Santiburi Koh Samui is a beachfront resort in Mae Nam, on the north coast. It opened in 1992 and is part of S Hotels and Resorts. The resort was designed after the summer palace of King Rama IV and sits on about 300 metres of beach. Press at the time said its opening marked the start of luxury travel on an island that had been a backpacker haven.

The Nice to Sea You concerts were organised by S Hotels and Resorts as a thank-you to Thai guests and billed as the first part of a series. They were open-air shows at the resort's beachfront venue, aimed at a Thai audience more than at the international crowd that the Samui Summer Jazz week targets. As this was a resort event, check with the resort about access and booking. Breaking Travel News and eHotelier published the announcements.

The facts

  1. Thai pop singers Burin Boonvisut and Pod Thanachai and the pop-rock band Etc played at the resort's beachfront The Beach House.
  2. The concerts marked the start of Thailand's first full high season in almost three years and the 30th anniversary of Santiburi.

Why it matters

A rare run of Thai pop-star concerts on Samui at the first full high season after COVID-19.

Line-up

More nights like this

Live music on Koh Samui

Live music on Samui is spread across the evening bar strips rather than one venue. Chaweng Beach Road has bars with house bands playing rock, reggae and pop covers, plus a small jazz club. Lamai leans towards reggae and rock bands, and Bophut's Fisherman's Village suits a quieter drink with a singer or duo. Larger club nights bring in visiting international performers, usually announced a few weeks ahead on the club's own channels. Resorts also host jazz and beach concerts now and then. Most nights start late, so expect the main acts after 22:00.

Around Maenam

Maenam is a long, quiet beach on the north coast, with views of Koh Phangan. Its best-known weekly event is the Thursday walking street, a short strip of roughly 200 metres with snacks, clothes and mobile cocktail bars, open from about 17:00. Parking nearby is tight, and a source advises arriving before 18:00. The village has many small restaurants, with Thai and European cooking. Evenings are calm rather than loud, and some beachfront hotels host festive buffets and New Year's Eve dinners.
